Cedar Gates

This species of lumber is best for any type of board or picket fence. As long as the bottom of the fence is not continually touching the ground, cedar is a very stable wood. It does not warp, shrink, or check (as pressure treated pine most likely will do eventually). Pressure-treated (PT) pine boards can warp and shrink as quickly as one month after installation. A fence using cedar boards will have a much nicer appearance after 10 years compared to a pressure treated pine board fence.

We source our lumber from a supplier that adheres to both state and federal forestry practices and regulations, and supports all initiatives that promote sustainable forestry. Our cedar usually comes from British Columbia, Washington state, and Oregon state. It can be 50-80 years old. Cedar lumber costs more than the fast-grown southern yellow pine, but it is well worth the extra expense. Cedar could last 30 years or more and will stay straight!

Only high quality, #1 grade WESTERN RED CEDAR is used in the construction of our custom wood fences. This product is used not only for its beauty, but it has proven best to withstand the extremes of the cold northern winters and hot, wet summers. Cedar also gives you the options of sealing, or coloring, to accommodate your design needs.
