We’re hiring install apprentices in the greater Onalaska, WI area to join our growing outdoor services team!
As an install apprentice, you’ll get hands-on experience in fence, deck, rail, landscaping, and irrigation projects while learning from our experienced crew leaders. This role is designed for individuals with a growth-mindset who want to start a career in the outdoor industry and grow their skills through structured training.

Purpose
To support the installation crews across all divisions—including fence, deck & rail, landscaping, and irrigation—by learning and performing entry-level installation tasks, developing skills progressively under the mentorship of experienced crew leaders, and contributing to safe, efficient, high-quality project execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist crew members with site preparation, material handling, planting, hardscape installation, irrigation setup, fence, and deck & rail installation tasks.
- Participate in hands-on training sessions and complete assigned modules in safety, equipment operation, and installation techniques relevant to all divisions.
- Learn to operate small equipment and tools safely and efficiently under supervision.
- Follow safety protocols, company standards, and LeanScaper operating procedures at all times.
- Support maintaining a clean, organized, and safe jobsite using LeanScaper 5S principles.
- Shadow experienced installers and progressively take on more complex tasks as skills develop across fence, decking, landscaping, and irrigation work.
- Attend scheduled training, feedback sessions, and performance check-ins with assigned mentor.
- Document learning progress and training completion in designated tracking systems like LMN Crew App or Greenius.
- Demonstrate a growth mindset with willingness to learn, take direction, and improve.
- Communicate effectively with teammates, crew leaders, and project managers.
Required Qualifications
- Interest or basic experience in any installation division such as fence, deck & rail, landscaping, or irrigation preferred.
- Ability to perform manual labor, including lifting, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
- Strong safety awareness and commitment to following protocols.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Positive attitude and eagerness to learn new skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team under supervision.
Training & Development Path
- Completion of 100 hours per year of a structured training plan combining online learning (Greenius), hands-on workshops, and on-the-job training relevant to all divisions.
- Progressive skill assessments at 30, 60, and 90 days, then quarterly thereafter.
- Mentor assignments to provide coaching, feedback, and growth opportunities.
- Opportunity to advance toward crew lead roles with certification and experience.
Reporting
- Reports to Crew Leader.
- Regular performance check-ins with assigned mentor.
Work Environment
- Outdoor jobsite environments with various weather conditions.
- Requires adherence to all safety guidelines and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
